Davis Residence in Washington

The Davis Residence is a project by Miller Hull Partnership, a firm stablished in 1977 that today counts with 7 partners and 56 contributors. The Miller Hull Partnership’s design reputation is based on simple, innovative and authentic designs, something we can confirm with the Davis Residence. A house where the concept marries a long gently sloping roof form containing the kitchen, entry and studio with a vertical tower containing the living room and master bedroom above. The roof forms express their timber construction with exposed joist, 1×4 skip sheathing and plywood diaphragms. Wood T&G paneling is stained in bold transparent colors.

Adam & Eve Hotel

With a name like “Adam & Eve Hotel” one would suspect there would be lots of sinning going on around here. Located in Antalya, Turkey, this ultra-chic 5-star hotel houses 497 rooms, including 27 suites and 25 private villas, each with a private swimming pool and garden.

According to one travel website: “Every vista is spectacular, whether lounging beside one of the world’s longest pools, or gazing lovingly at your reflection in your enormous mirrored hotel room. But if you’re looking a little jet-lagged, just change the ambient lighting to a more flattering color with the flick of a switch.”

House in the Garden

The House in the Garden is a project by Cunningham Architects. The house is located in Dallas, Texas, USA and the project is a real beauty, a intense combination between architecture, nature and landscaping. The place is a modernist elegant house. The project is almost hidden is the garden since it is discreetly set back to the rear of the lot behind a stainless steel mesh and recycled glass privacy wall. Illuminated from within, the glass wall gives no indication of the urban oasis behind it.

Villa Colani

There are some estates that just scream bling! at you. Love it or hate it, this place is a talker. Located on the Spanish island of Majorca, this is a ‘hood where if you have to ask the price, you can’t afford to be here. Which is pretty much the owner’s attitude about it. German prince and talk show host Karl-Heinz Richard Furst von Sayn-Wittgenstein says “price upon request.” We spotted it in an eBay classified listed at $28 million.

Casa Torcida

It’s impossible not to fall in love with this eco-friendly house, hidden on a coastal hillside in Costa Rica. Surrounded by lush greenery, I can only imagine how fresh the air must be. And with a fantastic view overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this home almost seems too good to be true…

Designed by SPG Architects, Casa Torcida has the largest domestic solar array in Costa Rica, which provides enough energy for lighting, appliances, and miscellaneous equipment. In the future, this solar-derived power will also provide for the needs of a state-of-the-art recording studio, located on the bottom floor.

Dubai’s Park Gate is a Solar-Powered Desert Oasis

ust because a building is in the desert doesn’t mean it has to be hot – at least that’s what Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill thought when designing their mixed-use development, Park Gate. The project is composed of six curving towers covered in a solar-powered canopy, with hanging gardens and reflecting pools below which act as thermal sinks. Inspired by the Middle East’s ancient and modern souks, Park Gate will serve as a place to rest, socialize and do business in the heart of Dubai.

Hydrogenase by Vincent Callebaut

Belgian  Architect Vincent Callebaut recently unveiled a project called Hydrogenase, a blue-sky plan for a high-flying fleet of self-sufficient aircraft that are one part zeppelin cities and one part hydrogen-generating floating farms. The algae-producing airborne cities are 100% emission-free and are capable of generating hydrogen gas without consuming land needed for crops or forests.

Ocean Imagination Pavilion

South Korea-based Unsangdong Architects didn’t hold anything back with this ambitious proposal for the Thematic Pavilion of Yeosu 2012. “Ocean Imagination” was awarded an honorable mention.

The pavilion allows visitors to experience the ocean’s ecosystems. “Ocean Gate” takes the culture of the sea shore and shifts it vertically. This move creates a dynamic visual that is a constant reminder of nature’s different environments. “It combines ocean ecosystem and architecture in accordance with the main theme of ‘Ocean & Life,’” says Unsangdong Architects.
